Metrolink receives $13.6 million for grade crossing projects
Metrolink has been awarded $13.6 million in Federal Highway Administration funds for grade crossing improvements along its Antelope Valley line in the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale, Calif. The commuter railroad will work with Union Pacific and the two cities to design and build improved crossings as Avenues J, K, M and P. Construction is expected to begin in early 2023 and be completed within 18 months. “These improvements keep Metrolink on the leading edge by employing the newest engineering technologies and processes to enhance safety for riders, our employees and the communities we serve,” Metrolink board chairman Ara Najrian said in a press release.

Original Ottawa O-Train equipment to be scrapped
The three original Bombardier trainsets purchased for Ottawa’s O-Train light rail system will be scrapped after the city was unable to find a buyer. The Ottawa Citizen reports the three diesel multiple-unit trainsets, modified versions of the Bombardier Talent trains designed for commuter rail operations in Europe, operated on the 5-mile route that opened in 2001 and is now known as the Trillium Line. The trains, purchased for $17.7 million were replaced by Alstom Coradia LINT trains in 2015.
