MONTICELLO, Ill. — The Monticello Railway Museum is offering aa chance to operate its recently acquired former Chicago & Illinois Midland RS1325 No. 31, one of just two such locomotives built.

The museum is selling tickets for an hour of throttle time, with participants running the locomotive under direction of a museum locomotive engineer. Those taking part must by at least 18 years old and physically able to climb into the locomotive cab and operate the controls.

The dates for throttle time are April 16-18, 2021. The museum will pull a small train over museum trackage for an hour; cab and caboose riders are also available during the throttle time.

To book throttle time, visit this website.

The museum is also holding a fundraiser to repaint the locomotive to full Chicago & Illinois livery. Contributions can be made here.

The locomotive, built in 1960, arrived at the museum on Nov. 17, 2020.
