The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad has postponed its Victorian Iron Horse Roundup, a planned gathering of 19th-century locomotives set for Aug. 22-31, to 2021. The event was planned as part of the tourist railroad’s 50th anniversary [see “Cumbres & Toltec announces schedule for 19th-century locomotive event,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 27, 2020]. In a letter to event ticketholders, John Bush, the railroad’s president and general manager, says the two locomotives from Nevada that were scheduled to appear will not be able to do so as a result of the COVID-19 situation. Both have committed to attending in 2021 “when conditions have approved.”

The letter indicates that refunds are available for those who request them, but is asking those who have purchased tickets to hold them for the rescheduled event, both to ensure spots when the Victorian roundup takes place, and to help the railroad deal with the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. Tickets that become available as a result of cancellations will be offered at “a significantly higher price.”

In the letter, Bush also says the railroad is negotiating to bring additional 19th-century equipment to the rescheduled event, and that current reservation-holders will receive an opportunity to purchase tickets at a discounted rate to any new events before they are offered to the general public
