Business magazine names Brightline 'Floridian of the Year'

 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The business magazine Florida Trend has named Brightline as its “Floridian of the Year.”

The magazine hails the company as the return of private passenger service in the U.S., and notes passenger trains’ historic role in Florida’s development. It also discusses its future, both in Florida — where the company is undergoing rebranding as Virgin Trains USA and preparing for an initial public offering [see “Brightline enters branding, marketing pact with Virgin Group,” Trains News Wire, Nov. 16, 2018, and “Virgin Trains-Brightline partnership leads to public offering,” Trains News Wire, Nov. 18, 2018] and elsewhere.

Among the possible operations beyond Florida is the Dallas-Houston Market. Texas Central is attempting to build a high speed rail system between those cities, but Brightline officials told the magazine that its operation could be built for a fraction of the cost and begin service years faster.
