HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut is expanding commuter rail capacity with the successful completion and opening of a second track on its Hartford Line between Hartford and Windsor, Conn. The four-mile project is latest achievement in a long-term strategy to expand and improve passenger rail service in the New England region.

The new second track will allow passenger and freight trains north of Hartford to pass each other quickly and efficiently. The most recent project is a component of a broader plan to install a second track between Windsor and Enfield for similar benefits.

Other improvements to rail operations in the area include design plans for several new station facilities in North Haven, Newington, West Hartford, among other locations.
