DENVER, Colo. — The Winter Park Express, a weekend ski train between Denver and Winter Park, Colo., is coming back for its third season. Amtrak and Winter Park Resort announced Thursday that the train would run every Saturday and Sunday from Jan. 4 to March 31, 2019. The train will also run on the first two Fridays of each month.

The Winter Park Express departs Denver Union Station at 7 a.m. and travels via Union Pacific’s Moffat Tunnel route, arriving at Winter Park at 9 a.m. The train returns at 4:30 p.m., arriving back in Denver at 6:40 p.m.

This year, Amtrak is offering one-way tickets for $29 for those who book early. Discounted tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Once those tickets are gone, they will increase in price to $39, $49 and $59. Pricing is subject to availability and only a limited number of seats are available for each train and each price level. Amtrak encourages people to purchase their tickets early.

The Winter Park Express began running in January 2017 and is a reincarnation of the Denver & Rio Grande Western’s Ski Train that operated until the 2000s.
