CSX executive O'Malley joins Brightline

MIAMI — CSX Transportation executive Bob O’Malley is joining Brightline as vice president of public affairs, a role which will include work on the company’s recently announced interest in developing service between Tampa and Orlando. [See “Brightline permits for Orlando expansion get OK; Tampa is next target,” Trains News Wire, July 9, 2018.]

O’Malley, who was vice president of state and local government relations at CSX, joins Brightline effective today (Monday, July 16).

He was quoted by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as saying, ““I’m a big soccer fan. I want a Tampa soccer fans to be able to take a train to a World Cup game in Orlando or Miami in 2026.”

O’Malley will be based in Orlando. He told the Business Journal his experience working with local and state officials, and with the Florida Department of Transportation, will be helpful in working to advance the Brightline project.
