MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — CSX Transportation’s newest intermodal rail facility is open for business. The Pittsburgh intermodal rail terminal located in McKees Rocks opened to customers this week.

The 70-acre terminal is the railroad’s latest investment along its national gateway corridor. The $850-million public-private partnership provides double-stack rail service from the Pittsburgh area to markets on the East Coast and in the Midwest.

Built on the property of a former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie rail yard in Stowe Township and McKees Rocks, the intermodal terminal is located along the railroad’s former Baltimore & Ohio mainline between Willard, Ohio, and Cumberland, Md.

“Our newest facility in Pittsburgh will connect southwestern Pennsylvania to markets across the country and around the world, while improving supply chain flows and reducing transportation costs,” says Fredrick Eliasson, vice president and chief sales and marketing officer at CSX.
