BOONE, Iowa — The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad kick off their full 2017 operating season this weekend. From May 27 through October, the Iowa tourist railroad will be operating daily excursions behind diesels or its Chinese 2-8-2.

The James H. Andrew Railroad Museum is also opening for the season at Boone this weekend and features a new exhibit dubbed “Streamliners Through Iowa.” Aside from the regular excursions from Boone to Fraser on a former Fort Dodge, Des Moines and Southern Railroad/Chicago and North Western branch line, the railroad will also be hosting a special “Electric Weekend” on June 3 and 4 to celebrate the railroad’s interurban roots.

The event will feature two operating electric railcars: the railroad's popular Charles City Western Car No. 50 and Chicago, South Shore & South Bend Car No. 106. Other pieces of electric railway equipment will be on display as well, including the railroad's newest acquisition, Iowa Traction No. 53.
