MONTREAL — VIA Rail Canada continues to celebrate the 150th birthday of Canada by wrapping its locomotives in a commemorative scheme. Earlier this year, the passenger railroad started wrapping GE P42DC locomotives and other passenger cars, but in recent weeks, a pair of EMD F40PH locomotives were spotted in the vibrant, yellow, red, and grey scheme.

VIA has wrapped upwards of a dozen P42DC locomotives, but only a couple F40’s have gotten the same treatment so far. A total of 22 locomotives will receive the commemorative wrap during Canada’s 150th celebration. New locomotives are being released each week in the birthday scheme.

VIA Train No. 84 was spotted with VIA F40PH No. 6454 eastbound on the Goderich-Exeter Railway’s Guelph subdivision in Mosborough, Ontario.

Canada’s birthday will be celebrated through various ceremonies and activities leading up to its sesquicentennial date on July 1.
