FORT WORTH, Texas — A company specializing in frac sand shipments for the oil and gas industry has opened a new rail-served facility in Texas. Maalt LP recently opened a 205-acre frac sand terminal in Big Lake, Texas, along the Texas Pacifico Railroad’s main line between the towns of Presidio and San Angelo.

“We see the Big Lake being a terminal that will remain busy for many years to come,” says Marty Robertson, president of Maalt. The Big Lake terminal is the 12th facility for the company.

The Texas shortline railroad will offer both unit train and manifest service to the facility, a Maalt news release says. Phase I of the project includes approximately 10,000 feet of rail for the purpose of transloading frac sand between railcars and trucks. Later phases call for building a loop track and silo storage area.

The terminal is located along the Permian Basin and received it first 75-car unit train on March 12.
