Long Island Rail Road runs extra trains for the holidays

NEW YORK – The Long Island Rail Road is planning to add dozens of extra trains to accommodate passengers traveling during the holidays. The railroad is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on Christmas Eve to accommodate the large number of passengers expected to leave work. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:43 p.m. and 3:48 p.m.

Two additional trains will run on the Ronkonkoma Branch, six trains on the Babylon Branch, and three trains on the Port Jefferson Branch, and one train on the Port Washington and Far Rockaway Branches.

The LIRR is also running four extra westbound trains and six extra eastbound trains on weekends, Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2-3 on the Long Beach Branch and Port Jefferson Branch.
