JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A worker who was repairing a Florida East Coast Railway bridge in Jacksonville died yesterday when he fell from the bridge, the Florida Times-Union has reported. Peter Jerome Michnick, 42, of Carney, Mich., died when he fell into the St. John River.

Harry Holekam, president of Osmose Railroad Services of Madison, Wis., said Michnick was part of a crew working for his company to repair the FEC bridge over the St. John. The drawbridge crosses the river adjacent to the Acosta Bridge, within sight of CSX headquarters.

Michnick’s body was recovered by a boater after he’d been beneath the water for about five minutes.
