PACIFIC, Mo. — The Route 66 Railfan Center will hold an open house tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pacific, Mo., just west of St. Louis. The center is located in downtown Pacific adjacent to both Union Pacific’s busy St. Louis to Kansas City main line and BNSF Railway’s St. Louis to Springfield, Mo., main line where a combined 40-50 trains a day pass.

Barbecue will be available for purchase to raise funds for the Route 66 Model Railroad Club, which will eventually be located on the second floor of the railfan center.

Immediately across the Union Pacific and BNSF main lines is the Pacific Plaza depot, which features covered viewing and a recently donated Burlington Northern caboose.

Both facilities are part of an effort by the Pacific Partnership group to create an elaborate railfan destination in its city. Future amenities for railfans include an ATCSmon display to show train movements, live scanner feed, and Wi-Fi, along with food and drinks.
