Chinese QJ, Union Pacific 844 to meet in Iowa

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Steam locomotives from Iowa Interstate and Union Pacific will be on display at Golden Spike Park in Council Bluffs on Nov. 12. Iowa Interstate’s Chinese QJ-class 2-10-2 No. 7081 and Union Pacific 4-8-4 No. 844 will meet to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of 844’s excursion career. The 4-8-4 will leave its Cheyenne, Wyo. home base on Nov. 9, running to North Platte, Neb. It will arrive in Council Bluffs Nov. 10, and be on display Nov. 11-12. The locomotive will pull a public excursion to North Platte for the Union Pacific Railroad Museum on Nov. 13, with a diesel pulling the return leg of the trip from North Platte to Council Bluffs. No. 844 will return to Cheyenne Nov. 14.
 
On Nov. 11 the QJ will operate from Des Moines to Council Bluffs with two Iowa Interstate business cars. On Nov. 12 it will be on display with 844, returning to Des Moines on Nov. 13.
