CROWLEY, La. — The driver of a semi truck that was sheared in half by Amtrak’s Sunset Limited earlier this month has been charged with driving under the influence, WDSU News in New Orleans has reported. Fourteen Amtrak passengers suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Marlon Broussard, 44, of Morse, La., has been booked into the parish jail on the charges, in addition to a charge of failing to stop. His truck was pulling a load of rice to a nearby mill when he stopped in the path of the Amtrak train at Crowley Sept. 10.

Broussard had told authorities he stopped at the crossing, looked both ways, and saw no trains approaching before occupying the crossing and being struck.
