CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — BNSF Railway has begun detouring two daily coal trains over Iowa Interstate Railroad between Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Colona, Ill. The routing will continue into December, and are due to trackwork on BNSF’s Ottuma Subdivision to the south.

The detours reduce the volume of trains over the subdivision so maintenance of way forces have more time between trains to complete work. Other detours are occurring within the BNSF system. Gangs are working on upgrading the line and improving locations that were hit by flooding and washouts this summer.
