Trains Photo Contest 2019: Go West!

Sponsored by Sigma
2018 Grand Prize: Todd Halamka
Having lived and worked in Chicago for nearly my entire adult life, the city continues to nurture two passions — buildings and trains. The Chicago River and the Loop elevated rail are two key components that define the urban core. The newly opened Chicago Riverwalk invites residents and visitors to stroll along its banks through parks, cafes, and overlooks. This image attempts to capture the joy of walking the esplanade at sunset, experiencing people, boats, and trains in a peaceful, park-like atmosphere deep within a forest of skyscrapers above.
Once again, Sigma will cosponsor the 2019 contest. To keep with Trains’ myriad celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion, we selected the theme “Go West!” Please interpret that theme to your heart’s content, but be prepared to explain how your photo suits it should you win. Please submit no more than three images. Do not alter your images beyond minor color corrections, burning, dodging, and levels adjustments.

Upload JPGs to no later than June 1, 2019, and type “photo contest” in the “comments.” If we select your image as a finalist, you can then send the high-resolution format. We do not accept mailed submissions.

Winners will be announced in the November 2019 issue.
