CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 will depart Cheyenne on Sept. 27 for its fall tour that will cover much of the southwest and southern U.S. served by the UP.

The railroad on Wednesday released operating and display dates through Oct. 22 and said the full schedule will be released later in the month. UP says the tour will cover Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Sources say the tour will cover almost 5,000 miles.

The primary objective for the fall tour is the Oct. 12-13 from West Colton, Calif., to Barstow, Calif., across Cajon Pass. Tickets are on sale for that event at the RailGiants Museum website.

A map at www.upsteam.com shows the train following the Overland Route to Ogden, then south via Las Vegas, east on the former Southern Pacific to El Paso, Texas, for an extended break that lasts through Oct. 31. From there, the train goes east to Houston, north to Little Rock and Kansas City and then west to Denver on UP’s Kansas Pacific routes before returning home to Cheyenne sometime in November.
