CHICAGO — A power outage caused major delays on Metra’s Electric Line during Tuesday’s afternoon rush hour.

Service was stopped between the 51st-53rd Street station in Hyde Park and downtown’s Millennium station as of about 4:40 p.m. and was out for more than two hours, the Chicago Tribune reports. During that period, announcements advised commuters to find alternate transportation, leading to soaring rates by ridesharing firms.

Service began to be restored about 6 p.m. as power was restored to one line. The Metra Electric Twitter account reported full power was restored about 7 p.m., but trains were operating with “extensive” delays. South Shore Line commuter service was also affected.

The Electric service was operating normally for this morning’s commute.
