DETROIT — The revival of Detroit’s Michigan Central Station could include passenger train service.

Bridge Michigan, an online journalism cooperative, reports that the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority have begun a $30,000 feasibility study to determine the possibility of returning Amtrak service to the long-abandoned Detroit landmark, which is being revived by Ford as a technology campus. The study aims to determine how much it would cost to return Amtrak to the station, as well as a source of funding.

“The goal right now,” Kyle Burleson, executive director for the Port Authority, told Bridge, “is to try to figure out what it would cost, then determine where we go from there.”

The station last saw train service in 1988.
