CHICAGO — The Blue Island branch of Metra’s Electric District service will shut down on Saturday, July 7, for maintenance-of-way work.

Trains that normally operate on the branch will begin or end at the Kensington/115th Street station, where the branch leaves the mainline, on Saturday. The Electric District’s mainline will operate normally, and Rock Island District service from Blue Island is also available.

The work will be the latest in a series of shutdowns or modifications across the Metra system to allow for tie replacement. About 10,000 ties will be replaced during a six-week project on the branch, which could also lead to delays on midday trains.
