CHICAGO — Metra will adjust its Tuesday schedules to accommodate workers making early departures for the July 4 holiday, as will a number of other commuter rail systems.

Nine of Metra’s 11 lines will have adjusted schedules. Only the Heritage Corridor and North Central Service will maintain normal schedules. Line-by-line changes are available here.

Elsewhere:

— In the New York area, Metro-North will offer extensive early-getaway trains on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines. Details are available here. The Long Island Railroad will offer extra afternoon departures on four branches. Those details are available here.

— Starting at about 1 p.m., NJ Transit will offer extra outbound service on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines. Details are available at njtransit.com.

Other systems will operate normal July 3 schedules. Most commuter rail services will offer Sunday-level service or will not operate on July 4. Check with local providers for information.
