DELMAR, Del. – Pennsylvania-based Carload Express Inc. is expanding its rail freight service to the Commonwealth of Virginia through the lease of 14.8 miles of rail line between Pocomoke City, Md., and Hallwood, Va. After the cessation of Bay Coast Railroad’s operations in May, Carload Express' Delmarva Central Railroad entered into a lease and operating agreement with the underlying landowner, Canonie Atlantic Co., to restore and enhance rail service on the northern portion of the former Bay Coast Railroad. This portion of rail line will be served by Delmar-based freight service, with connections to Norfolk Southern via interchanges at Clayton and Tasker.

“Carload Express is excited to incorporate this new line into its existing DCR operations and to begin providing efficient customer-focused rail service to its new customers in Virginia,” President Mark Rosner says. “Our agreement with CAC supports industrial development on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and provides a long-term solution for rail service in Accomack County.”

With this addition, Delmarva Central Railroad’s network totals 177 miles in three states, serving more than 40 customers.
