CHAMA, N.M. – Four steam locomotives will be roaring up the legendary Cumbres Pass this Saturday to celebrate start of the 2018 excursion season on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic.

From Chama, two former Denver & Rio Grande Western K-36 2-8-2 locomotives will pull the daily eastbound train. The westbound from Antonito will be led by 2-8-0 No. 315 and 2-8-2 No. 463. “Both rail buffs and first-time riders will thrill to the rare sight of seeing two steam locomotives working together in tandem to pull the passenger cars on opening day,” railroad officials say.

There will also be brief celebrations in Chama and Antonito prior to each departure.
