BALTIMORE — An Amtrak employee was struck and killed Tuesday by a train on the Northeast Corridor, the Baltimore Sun reports.

The accident occurred about 9 a.m. near the Bowie State University MARC commuter station in Bowie, Md., when the individual was struck by a northbound Northeast Regional train. Amtrak confirmed the victim was an Amtrak engineering employee in a statement to the Sun.

The National Transportation Safety Board has sent investigators to the scene.

The 251 passengers on the train were transferred to another Amtrak train after about a 90-minute delay.
