NEWARK, N.J. — New Jersey's governor says an engineering firm vice president should be the next leader for beleaguered NJ Transit.

On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy nominated Kevin Corbett, an AECOM vice president, to be the transit agency's next executive director, according to NJ.com. Corbett would replace Steve Santoro who has agreed to step aside, but will remain on the job until April. To take the job, Corbett would need to be confirmed by NJ Transit's board of directors.

NJ.com reports that AECOM has done consulting work for NJ Transit, but did not specify if Corbett was involved in those dealings. The news site also reports that the executive director nominee and his wife are frequent NJ Transit riders.
