A consortium including German construction firm Hochtief and rail equipment manufacturer Bombardier has been named as the preferred developer for a rail project at Los Angeles International Airport, Reuters reports.

The $1.95 billion project includes design, financing, construction and 25-year operation of an automated, above-ground “people mover" to connect parking lots, rental car terminals and Metro light-rail stations with terminals at LAX, the nation’s second-busiest airport.

The project, to be completed by 2023, will include 44 Bombardier trainsets.
