BISMARCK, N.D. — Residents accustomed to seeing a railroad bridge over the Missouri River on their horizon say they'd prefer BNSF Railway to transfer ownership of the structure rather than demolish it.

KFGO-TV in Bismarck reports that 75 people attended a community held before Christmas about the bridge. Certain locals say they want to see an organization develop a plan to put a walking and bicycle path over the bridge. BNSF officials said earlier this year that they plan to replace the 134-year-old Northern Pacific-built span with a newer bridge to accommodate increasing traffic loads.
