MIAMI — The South Florida Water Management District says Brightline can proceed to build and operate a stormwater management system along its Miami-to-Orlando, Fla., right-of-way with an agency-issued permit. The permit will also allow modifications of water management-related equipment placed at some of the grade crossings in Martin and St. Lucie counties.

The permit is an important step to keeping Brightline on track to begin service between Miami and West Palm Beach, Fla., in late 2017. However, it is a loss for opponents of Brightline, who challenged the railroad's fitness to receive the permit after a Florida administrative law judge recommended that the agency grant the permit.
