SEATTLE, Wash. — Popular Science has issued its "Best Of What's New" award to the plans to build a light rail bridge across Interstate 90.

Sound Transit's East Link project across Lake Washington is slated to open in 2023 and where it crosses Lake Washington, will feature the world's first floating light rail bridge.

Sound Transit says that the design will compensate for six different ranges of lake motion. Popular Science selected the design from 100 entries among 11 different categories.

When completed, the light rail extension will add 14 miles of track and 10 stations to Sound Transit's network. The new line will link downtown Seattle to Redmond's Overlake neighborhood.
