NEW YORK — After initial problems reserving space for Amtrak’s Oct. 14 and 15, 2017, Autumn Express Hudson Valley excursions out of New York’s Penn Station, the company’s website is once again accepting bookings.

Amtrak spokeswoman Venae Graham tells Trains News Wire, “There was some type of glitch” at 10 a.m. Tuesday when tickets were supposed to be offered.

Several readers say they had no trouble buying tickets using Amtrak’s smartphone app, but couldn’t get through on the regular site.

“It could be that many were booking at the same time,” Graham says. As of 3:30 p.m., “Neither train is sold out but sales are steady, and we expect them to sell out.”

Travelers wishing to buy either of the $169 all-day trips (children 2-12 are half fare), should enter “NYP” in the website’s “From” field, and “AXP” in the “To” field, indicating either the Oct. 14 or 15.

Both trains include a rare run up the west side of the Hudson River on normally freight-only CSX Transportation trackage before crossing east to the regular Empire Service route over the Alfred H. Smith Memorial Bridge.
