ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The operators of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express are promoting passenger rail travel with new $1 weekends, officials with the Rio Metro Regional Transit District recently announced.

During the fourth weekend of every month from August through October, fares will be only one dollar on each Saturday or Sunday all day long. The promotion applies only to weekend travel during those fourth weekend of the months.

The dates include Aug. 26-27, Sept. 23-24, and Oct. 28-29.

Adults and children ages 10 and older are only $1, while children ages nine and younger are free. The promotion is intended to highlight the advantages of passenger rail travel to popular dining and shopping venues in the New Mexico cities of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Belen.

The agency’s weekend schedule includes five northbound departures from Belen and five southbound trains. Some of the weekend trains operate the entire length of the corridor from Belen to Santa Fe, while other trains run only between downtown Albuquerque and Belen.

A full weekend schedule is available online.
