DEMOPOLIS, Ala. — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $482,000 community development grant to the city of Demopolis to build an industrial rail spur serving a lumber company, the Demopolis Times reports.

The city will use the grant money to build a more than 1,350-foot rail spur to Two Rivers Lumber, a sawmill company currently building its first sawmill in the city’s Airport Industrial Park.

The spur will be served by Genesee & Wyoming’s Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway, which interchanges with Norfolk Southern.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will be responsible for disbursing the grant funds.
