FreightCar America names Meyer president and CEO

CHICAGO — FreightCar America has named James R. Meyer as president and CEO effective July 31. Meyer will succeed Joseph E. McNeely who is leaving the freight car supplier to pursue other opportunities.

Meyer has more than 30 years of experience in the heavy equipment, automotive, and consumer goods industries. He joins the company from Commercial Specialty Truck Holdings, a commercial truck supplier, where he served as chairman of the board. He has been an advisor and investor of the company since 2015.

He has also held other executive leadership roles at similar companies, including chief operating officer of Allied Specialty Vehicles, Inc., a supplier of specialty vehicles for fire and emergency management industries.

In this new role as FreightCar America’s top leader, Meyer will oversee all operations.

FreightCar America is a manufacturer of freight railroad cars that builds new railcar fleets, supplies parts, and leases cars through its JAIX leasing subsidiary. The company has offices in the eastern U.S. and China.
