EAST JORDAN, Mich. — A steam locomotive in East Jordan, Mich., will be moved to a new home in June.

East Jordan & Southern Railroad 2-6-0 Mogul-type No. 6 has been on display in Memorial Park since it was retired and donated to the city in 1961. The local Lion’s Club has assisted with its upkeep.

In early June, as part of a master plan to make more room at memorial park, the 1909 Alco Pittsburgh-built locomotive will be moved about a quarter-mile to nearby Sportsman’s Park. The new location will make the locomotive more accessible to the public, city administrator Tom Cannon tells Trains News Wire, and will allow the city to put up more signage describing the locomotive’s history.

"Locomotive No. 6 has served East Jordan as a monument for several decades and has a significant impact on our history and town's formation,” Cannon says, “Relocating the train will allow improved viewing and awareness of the train as well as recreating an open space at one our community's cornerstone parks.”
