PHOENIX — Valley Metro has signed a five-year contract with Alternate Concepts, Inc., to handle all of its light rail operations. The Boston-based rail services company will be responsible for managing, coordinating and operating all activities related to Valley Metro’s 26-mile system in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

Alternate Concepts began services operations for the agency prior to its opening in December 2008 and has worked with the agency through its various rail extension projects.

Valley Metro’s system operates 365 days per year, for up to 22 hours per day. It handled approximately 15.6 million passengers in 2016.
