NEW WESTMINSTER, British Columbia — TransLink managers have outlined a series of improvements slated for the Surrey Central SkyTrain station southeast of Vancouver.

The $25 million project will outfit the station with three new escalators, a new elevator, staircase, and an improved lighting system. Two entrances on the north side will also be improved for capacity and accessibility purposes.

Transit managers say the Surrey Central station is located in an area of town that is experiencing significant residential and commercial development. The station is one of seven stations located on the agency’s Expo Line that are targeted for upgrades.

Construction will begin in early April and will be finished by the end of 2018.

The Surrey Central station originally opened in March 1994.
