WILMINGTON, Calif. — California’s Pacific Harbor Line Railroad has started testing Progress Rail's new 2,000-horsepower EMD24B locomotive. The low-emissions Tier 4 locomotive debuted in late February.

The locomotive is currently going through California Air Resources Board’s 3,000-hour in-service verification testing associated with Tier 4 standards. The switching locomotive will be used at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The EMD24B features a Caterpillar diesel engine and is rebuilt from an existing EMD GP40 locomotive.
