WASHINGTON — Operation Lifesaver Inc. has named Robert C. VanderClute as chairman of its board of directors. VanderClute succeeds William Barringer who recently resigned from the position.

VanderClute is president and chief operating officer of consulting firm FirstRail International. He previously served as senior vice president of safety and operations with the Association of American Railroads and was also vice president for rail at Parsons Brinckerhoff. He also spent 27 years with Amtrak where he served as vice president of operations and chief operating officer.

Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public safety education and awareness group dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities, and injuries at grade crossings and on railroad property.
