British film archive launches online railway database

britishpathe
LONDON — British Pathe, one of the world’s largest historic film archives, has launched a new online, on-demand channel containing an extensive collection of railway documentaries. The films include in-cab views and other historic rail-related content.

The content is tailored to specialty audiences, such as train enthusiasts, history buffs, and cinema aficionados, a news release from the company explains.

Some of the featured content in the new archive includes a near 4-hour documentary on the fall and rise of British Railways during the post-industrial era, a 9-hour documentary covering the history of steam and heritage diesel locomotives in the United Kingdom, among other videos featuring European cab rides and other 20th century content.

Members of the subscription-based service can access the documentaries here.
