The Milwaukee Streetcar
MILWAUKEE — Local leaders in Milwaukee have selected Kiewit Infrastructure Co. to build the first phase of the city’s proposed streetcar line and maintenance facility. Under the new contract, Kiewit will be responsible for the installation of rail, the overhead contact system and station stops. Kiewit was one of seven national firms that submitted proposals to build the system.

The construction company plans to issue requests for proposals for subcontractors in the near future and will also hire local employees. A contractor forum will be held in September to provide firms and other businesses an opportunity to learn more about the streetcar project and how to bid for work on the job.

The proposed streetcar route will connect the city’s train and bus depot to the Burns Commons neighborhood, northeast of downtown. Plans also call for an extension to the Lake Michigan waterfront.
