PHOENIX — Valley Metro’s newest light rail station will be constructed and managed by Stacy and Witbeck Inc. The firm will oversee all aspects of construction for the $23 million station. The agency’s board of directors unanimously approved the firm in a recent meeting.

The 50th Street Station will be the first “new” station along the existing system. It will serve communities and future development near 50th Street and Washington.

Valley Metro says the project is made possible by Transportation 2050. The project is a voter-approved 35-year citywide transportation plan that focuses on improvements in public transit service and infrastructure. The plan is funded by a seven tenths of a cent sales tax.

The 50th Street Station is the first project to be implemented under the new transportation plan.
