CHARLES CITY, Iowa – If you haven't heard, a covered hopper derailed in Iowa last week, crashing into the trackside "DeRailed Bar" in Charles City.

The derailment happened early on the morning of Aug. 9 on Canadian Pacific’s route through northeast Iowa. According to local media reports, the car had derailed during a switching move on a nearby spur track.

Nobody was in the bar at the time of the derailment and no one was injured. The owner of the bar tells the Mason City Globe Gazette that the derailment caused about $10,000 worth of damage to his building, however the bar was open again the following day. The area the car hit was used for storage.
