NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit will offer demonstration rides on its Norfolk-Virginia Beach, Va., light rail line Aug. 19, with regular service beginning Aug. 22, the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot has reported. “The Tide” is expected to move 2,900 people daily in its first year of operations.

The line came in $106 million over budget and has missed three previously announced opening dates. However, agency President Philip Shucet said he’s confident service will be ready to launch.
