CHAMA, N.M. — Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad will reopen the length of its line for testing by the middle of next week, nearly a year after fire claimed the Lobato Trestle. Railroad spokesman Nick Quintana said the line will be fully open when the regular season begins May 28.

The 1883 trestle burned last June. Cinders from a passing steam locomotive may have started the fire. The railroad received federal funds to help rebuild the bridge, a key part of its network. Trains ran from alternate locations for much of last year.
