VIA Rail putting refurbished cars into service

RELATED TOPICS: PASSENGER
MONTREAL – Canada’s VIA Rail passenger service announced it is putting refurbished passenger cars into its fleet as part of a government-funded $894 million fleet renewal program. The first cars, both sleeping cars and diners, are running on the Canadian between Toronto and Vancouver.

Forty refurbished sleeping cars now feature new upholstery, carpets, and wall coverings. Heating and ventilating systems were upgraded for better temperature control, as were bathrooms, electrical, water, and brake systems.

Thirteen dining cars are also being rebuilt and put into service. Energy conserving light assemblies, renovated kitchens, new resilient carpet flooring and improved ventilation systems are among the new installs, as are new wall coverings, dining room chairs and leather-covered bench seats.
