DAY 1 – After flying into Zurich International Airport, we'll use our Swiss Rail Pass to travel to the Zurich main station and check in at the Schweizerhof Hotel across the street. Those arriving early will have time to visit the Historic Railway Shop in Brugg before gathering for dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

DAY 2 – This morning we board a passenger train at the Zurich main station, which will take us through the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. We'll take a break in Bellinzona to visit UNESCO World Heritage castles and enjoy lunch. Mid-afternoon we'll continue by rail to the border city of Lugano, where we'll spend the night.
DAY 3 – After a morning bus ride to the Italian city of Tirano, we board the Bernina Express, which takes us through the Swiss Engadin Alps to St. Moritz. Along the way we'll see the Brusio Circular Viaduct and Bernina Hospice Station. We'll continue by rail to Chur after a brief stop in St. Moritz, passing through the Loop Tunnel and over the Landwasser Viaduct.

DAY 4 – A morning train takes us to Oberwald where we begin our ride on the Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway. At Furka's terminal in Realp, we'll board a passenger train and travel to Zermatt, where we'll spend the night.
DAY 5 – Today we'll ride the Gornergrat Cog Railway, Europe's highest open-air cog railway nearly a mile up to see the legendary Matterhorn. Upon returning to Zermatt, we'll transfer to a train to Brig where we'll stay overnight.

DAY 6 – Today we'll take a morning train to Martigny, where we'll ride the Mont Blanc Express to Chamoix, France. Here we'll ride the cable car up to the summit, return to Martigny, then continue on to Montreux, where we'll settle for a two-night stay at the Grand Suisse Majestic.

DAY 7 – We'll have the option to relax today and explore Montreux on our own or join the group for a train ride to Chillon Castle for a guided tour.

DAY 8 – Our journey continues to Interlaken today. En route we'll pass through Zweisimmen where the new conversion system for narrow to normal gauge tracks is being installed. Once in Interlaken we'll head up into the Alps on the Jungfrau Railway, ending at Jungfraujoch – the highest railway station in Europe.
DAY 9 – The day begins with a transfer from Interlaken to Brienz where we'll ride the Brienzer Rothorn steam train from the eastern end of Lake Brienz, to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn. We'll return to Brienz and continue on to Lucerne, where we'll stay two nights at the Hotel Central Luzern.

DAY 10 – In the morning we'll depart for the Pilatus Cog Railway and go up as a group and return at our leisure. In the afternoon we'll visit the Swiss Museum of Transport where we'll enjoy a guided tour of the rail hall.
DAY 11 – Today we'll have a private tour of the Vitznau depot, followed by a ride on the Rigi-Kulm Cogwheel Railway, Europe's first mountain railway. Upon our return to Rigi, we'll continue back to Zurich and enjoy a farewell dinner in the city. We'll spend the night at the Schweizerhof Hotel.

DAY 12 – Following breakfast on our last day, we will head home, travel on our own, or join the tour on the Berlin/Innotrans extension (details to come).
